Maybe getting out of bed takes longer than it used to.
Maybe you've stopped doing certain things because you're afraid you'll trigger another painful flare-up.
Perhaps you think twice before taking a trip, going shopping, exercising, gardening, playing with your grandchildren, or simply making plans.
What if you can't keep working?
What if you have to depend on other people?
What if the financial strain becomes too much?
What if chronic pain begins affecting your relationships and the life you've worked so hard to build?
When you've lived with back pain long enough, you can gradually begin organizing your entire life around what might hurt.
But what if there were another way to approach it?
It's about helping you get more of your life back.
Practical Movement-Based and Lifestyle-Focused Principles for Chronic Back Pain was created to help you better understand your pain and explore practical ways to support movement, function, confidence, and overall well-being.
You won't find an impossible routine that expects you to completely rearrange your life.
Maybe your first victory is a five-minute walk.
Maybe it's sleeping better.
Maybe it's getting stronger.
Maybe it's learning to pace yourself
Maybe it's going somewhere you've been avoiding.
Maybe it's discovering that a difficult day doesn't automatically mean you've lost all your progress.
Or maybe it's simply waking up one morning and realizing:
Those small victories matter.
Because small victories can become habits.
Habits can become confidence.
And confidence can begin opening doors that fear had quietly closed.
My journey with chronic back pain began after the birth of my third child in 1988.
What started as lower-back pain that came and went became increasingly severe over the years.
Eventually, painful spasms would leave me "more times than not" unable to walk without assistance and cause me to miss work frequently.
My journey included pain management, powerful prescription pain medications, aquatic and regular physical therapy, an implanted Spinal Cord Neuro-Stimulator, and ultimately spinal fusion surgery at L5-S1.
I also endured difficult withdrawals while being tapered from Fentanyl and a muscle relaxer.
For years, I tried approaches other people told me would help—only to discover something important:
Today, I apply the principles shared in this eBook not because I claim to have discovered a magic cure, but because years of living with chronic back pain taught me the importance of learning your body, adapting, building sustainable habits, working appropriately with healthcare professionals, and finding a way forward that is actually doable in your own life.
it's something you think about before almost everything you do. That's why this book doesn't ask you to become someone else. It helps you begin where you are.
You need something you can actually use
When real life happens.
When you're tired
When you're busy.
When motivation disappears.
When your back feels more sensitive.
When you miss a few day
When you're afraid to try again.
Maybe you'd take that trip.
Walk with your family.
Return to gardening.
Exercise again.
Spend an afternoon shopping with a friend.
Play with your grandchildren.
Say yes to an invitation without immediately calculating how much sitting or walking might be involved.
Or simply feel more confident taking care of yourself.
All through an approach built around one simple idea:

You won't just read about making changes—you'll have planners, challenges, trackers, and worksheets to help you begin putting what you've learned into practice.

“I’ve already tried so many things. Why should this be any different?”
Because this book doesn’t promise one perfect solution. It helps you identify small, practical changes that fit your body, your abilities, and your lifestyle so you can build a plan you can actually sustain.
“What if my back problem is too severe?”
This book is educational, not a replacement for individualized medical care. If you have a diagnosed condition, previous surgery, activity restrictions, or concerning symptoms, you’re encouraged to work with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional while using the principles that are suitable for you.
“Movement hurts. What if I make things worse?”
You won’t be told to jump into intense exercise or push through severe pain. The book teaches you to start with manageable movement, pay attention to your response, and build confidence gradually.
“How do I know what’s safe?”
You’ll learn to distinguish ordinary soreness or discomfort from symptoms that deserve medical attention, and when it makes sense to stop and seek professional guidance.
“I’m too old or too out of shape.”
Your starting point doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Five minutes of movement, better sleep, one healthier habit, or one activity you’ve been afraid to try can be enough to begin.
“I don’t have the energy for another complicated program.”
Good—because this isn’t built around perfection. The book focuses on small, repeatable habits involving movement, strength, sleep, stress, nutrition, hydration, pacing, and confidence.
“I don’t have time.”
Your routine can shrink when life gets busy. Even a few minutes can keep you connected to your goals until you have more time and energy again.
“What if I have another flare-up?”
A flare-up does not automatically mean you’ve failed or lost all your progress. You’ll learn how to look for clues, adjust your activity, and create a personal flare-up plan before you need it.
“Can an ebook really help when treatments haven’t fixed my pain?”
This book isn’t trying to replace treatment. It gives you a practical framework for what happens in everyday life—movement, habits, pacing, fear, confidence, and the choices you make between appointments.
“How quickly will I see results?”
There are no guaranteed medical results or fixed timelines. Instead, use your first few weeks to understand your patterns, begin healthier habits, build confidence in movement, and create a plan you can continue.
“What if these ideas don’t work for me?”
Then you adjust. The book encourages you to learn from your own responses instead of treating recovery like a pass-or-fail program.
“Why should I listen to Denise Ellis?”
Because Denise isn’t presenting herself as your doctor. She’s sharing from lived experience after years of chronic pain, difficulty walking, missed work, pain management, physical therapy, a spinal cord stimulator, spinal fusion surgery, and Fentanyl and muscle relaxer withdrawals.
“Can’t I find this information online for free?”
You can find plenty of information online. What this book gives you is an organized path—what to focus on, what to try next, and how to bring movement, habits, confidence, flare-up planning, and long-term consistency together.
“Will I need expensive equipment or programs?”
This eBook focuses primarily on practical everyday changes such as walking, gentle movement, pacing, changing positions, sleep, stress management, and returning gradually to meaningful activities.
“Is this just another book telling me to exercise and think
positively?”
No. You’ll learn to replace fear-based thinking with more balanced questions, test manageable activities, observe what actually happens, and build confidence from experience—not wishful thinking.
"What is the satisfaction policy?"
